Slippery road conditions cause crashes across New England

Snow showers on Saturday caused slippery road conditions and more than a hundred crashes on New England roads Saturday, officials said.

New Hampshire State Police confirmed their troopers responded to more than 100 incidents from the weather. They responded to 69 crashes between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m., 29 reports of drivers sliding off the roads, and nine other driver assists. Most of the crashes occurred in Rockingham, Hillsborough and Strafford counties. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported.

Maine State Police warned drivers to be cautious after responding to several reports of crashes and people sliding off the roads. They said slippery road conditions and poor visibility from the snow were to blame.

There were speed restrictions on parts of Interstate 95 due to the conditions.

Drivers are urged to go slow and give extra space between vehicles as Maine Department of Transportation and Turnpike crews work to clear the roads. The New Hampshire Department of Transportation issued a similar warning about their roads, reminding drivers to look out for icy spots, particularly on bridges.

There have also been road closures, including Route 175 in Thornton, New Hampshire, where a crash took down power lines.

Firefighters in Grafton, Massachusetts, responded to two separate crashes Saturday morning, with minor injuries reported.

Even after the snow moves out, there is continued risk for icy conditions into Sunday morning, with temperatures staying below freezing. For the latest forecast, click here.
