Fall sports are in full swing with the Calhoun Warriors and Lady Warriors each starting the season off strong with some big wins.
The Lady Warriors started the season off at the Roxana Tournament with wins against Father McGivney, Jerseyville and Dupo in the first day of tournament play before going on to be named repeat tournament champions.
The Lady Warriors went on to find themselves against the Carrollton Hawks in the semifinals where they took down the Hawks after three sets before heading to the championship match. The Hawks took the Warriors in the first set, 25-23, before the Warriors came back in the next two sets to secure the win 25-22 and 15-12.
Kate Zipprich and Joy Hurley had eight kills each against Carrollton and Audrey Gilman had seven. Zipprich had two blocks, Lacy Pohlman had two assists, Josie Hoagland had 10 digs, Leila Schulte seven digs. Hoagland, Schulte and Pohlman each had two aces and Hoagland and Schulte each had nine serve points.
The Lady Warriors faced the tournament hosts in the championship game, falling to the Shells in the first set, 25-20. But Calhoun came back strong in the next to two sets, 25-11 and 15-4, to secure the win.
Kate Zipprich led against Roxana with 13 kills, five blocks and a 500% hitting percentage. Joy Hurley played strong with 11 kills and nine digs. Lacy Pohlman assisted in 29 kills. Josie Hoagland and Leila Schulte were strong on defense with 15 and 12 digs, respectively. They also lead in serving with Hoagland serving 13 points with four kills and Schulte adding 11 serves points.
Coach Melissa Zipprich said it was a great way to start the season.
Warriors Football took the field Saturday, securing a 37-19 win against Routt Catholic.
Will Lorton, Jack Webster and Conner Longnecker each scored a touchdown, and Drew Wallendorf scored two touchdowns, one from an interception.
Lorton had 139 all purpose yards while Wallendorf had 123, Longnecker had 110, Webster had 25 and Lane Eilerman had 45.
