It was smooth sailing for Dover-Sherborn boys and girls swim team Friday night as they both defeated Medfield – 96-68 for the boys, while the girls finished up 86-58, respectively.

The teams combined for 16 event wins on the night, including ten in which they had the first and second place finishes. With the outstanding performance came several state sectional qualifications.

“I’m happy with how they swam,” said head coach Carly Eckles. “Coming off of vacation it’s really hard to get up and go, especially since so many of them were away so I’m proud of the effort they put forth. I put a lot of kids in events they might not have been super comfortable with and I think they did very well with not being in their comfort zone.”

Amongst the girls’ best performances were freshman Dakota Callahan in the 50 yard free stroke (26.27), freshman Norah Yang in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:13.90), junior Alison Sham in the 500 free (5:48.70) and junior Nora Olsen in the 200 yard free stroke (2:09.62).

For the boys, their top performers included freshman Max Shturman in the 200 yard free stroke (1:54.98), 50 yard free stroke sophomore competitors Max Koltov (25.55) and Pranav Kollipara (25.92), freshman Chris Pan in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:10.62) and Koltov in the 500 yard free stroke (5:32.14).

Captain Silas Morris competed in the one meter dive, finishing with a final point total of 135.75. While it wasn’t the senior’s top showing of the night, Eckles was not worried about the effort he put forward.

“I would say it’s probably not what he wanted but he only started diving in the middle of last season,” said Eckles. ”To have him – no pun intended – dive back into it with a total of six weeks of diving under his belt over the course of a year, he should be really proud of himself.”

Morris has also taken on a vocal role as captain with the rest of the team. His exuberant personality is tough to go unnoticed.

“He should be very proud of himself for how he’s really stepped up and taken charge of knowing every single kid on the team, what they’re swimming and encouraging his teammates to get loud and being that presence on the deck that we always need,” added Eckles. ”He’s always willing to step into that role.”

The Raiders took on Westwood on January 5.
