Clemson falters for first time in ACC, 74-64 at Louisville

LOUISVILLE – Clemson University men’s basketball lost its first league game of the season at Louisville on Tuesday night, 74-64.

 The Tigers (12-4, 4-1 ACC) were led by four double-digit scorers, including 10 off the bench from Jake Heidbreder (Floyds Knobs, Ind./Floyd Central). Chase Hunter (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake) led all Tiger scorers with 15.

 The opening stanza found the Tigers down by six points early, but they quickly regained the lead and led by six points themselves twice in the first half. Clemson led 34-28 with 3:13 left in the period, but Louisville finished the half on a 14-1 run to regain momentum and lead 42-35 at the break.

 Ian Schieffelin (Atlanta, Ga./Grayson) totaled his seventh double-double of the season and 19th of his career with 10 points and 10 rebounds. He finished with eight and four in the second half.

 Down 51-39 early in the second half, Clemson wouldn’t go away. The Tigers constructed a 15-5 run that was capped off by Heidbreder’s second triple of the half and trailed by just two at 56-54.

 The Cardinals responded immediately and pushed the game out of reach for good.

 J’Vonne Hadley led the Cardinals with 32 points and 10 rebounds. Louisville finished 16-for-20 at the free throw line, while the Tigers were awarded just five attempts and made four.
