PCHS basketball to host Jan. 14 and 16 games

Pike County High School’s basketball teams are several games into their season with the girls starting out the season with a 4-3 record and 0-1 region record.

The Lady Pirates held strong in the first half as they faced Callaway Friday, Jan. 3, going to the half down 22-19. Callaway picked up the pace in the second half to win 74-40.

The girls team defeated Crawford County 51-41 on Dec. 18, dominated Kendrick 61-22 on Dec. 6 and by a score of 50-15 on Dec. 10 and defeated Whitewater 35-16 on Nov. 21.

The girls played Rock Springs Christian Academy on Jan. 6 and Jackson on Jan. 7 after the Journal Reporter’s press deadline.

The Lady Pirates will play Westside at 6 p.m. on the road Jan. 10.

They will host Morgan County at 6 p.m. Jan. 14 and Rock Springs at 6 p.m. Jan. 16 before traveling to Rutland for a 6 p.m. game Jan. 17.

In their only win of the season, the boys basketball team defeated the ACE Gryphons by a score of 63-52. They were consistent in the first three quarters (12, 13 and 13 points) but a scoring spree in the fourth quarter (25 points) helped them secure the win.

The boys team has had several close games but are 1-9 so far for the season. In two of their closest games, the boys lost 60-57 to Kendrick Dec. 6 and 59-54 to Mary Persons Nov. 19.

The Pirates basketball team also played Rock Springs Christian Academy on Jan. 6 and Jackson on Jan. 7 after the Journal Reporter’s press deadline.

The Pirates face Westside at 7:30 p.m. on the road Jan. 10 and will host Morgan County at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 14 and Rock Springs at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 16 before traveling to Rutland for a 7:30 p.m. game Jan. 17.
