ArmInfo. The head of the Human Rights Council (HRC) under the President of the Russian Federation has appealed to the UN in connection with the denial of entry to Armenia to political scientist Andranik Mihranyan. On December 15, 2024, well-known political scientist, MGIMO professor Andranik Migranyan arrived at Yerevan's Zvartnots International Airport to visit the burial places of his parents and relatives in Armenia. However, he was denied entry to the country. When going through security at the airport, the professor informed the Armenian border service employees about the nature of his trip and presented his documents. After additional consultations, the officials, without giving any reasons or justifying their actions, told him that it was impossible to enter Armenia.
"The refusal to allow a person to visit the graves of close relatives causes genuine bewilderment and indignation. We call on you and the international community to condemn the incorrect actions of the Armenian authorities. We also ask you to use your influence and all possible means to influence official Yerevan in order to eliminate the consequences of the flagrant violation of the rights of Russian citizen Andranik Mihranyan," reads the appeal of the standing commission of the Human Rights Council on International Cooperation in the Field of Human Rights to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk. The letter sent today, presented in the telegram channel, was signed by the adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, the head of the Human Rights Council Valery Fadeev.
