Re: An unwanted honor: Native American mascots

While the names are offensive in some cases, I have a hard time believing that this is an issue worth the money for a fight.

The Sioux on Pine Ridge live in some of the worst poverty in our Nation. 50% of Pine Ridge children do not finish high school, Substance abuse and neglect are rampant and the racism in near-by Rapid City is the worst I ever witnessed anywhere, and I was in Mississippi in the Sixties.
Yeah, these teams should voluntarily give up their racist names, BUT even if they don’t, over time they will become a badge of honor. “Yankee,” after all, was a British epithet.

Leonard Peltier is still in jail.
There are 45 homicide cases unsolved on the reservation some dated back 40 years.
