Schiel’s Family Market will reopen Tuesday

Schiel’s Family Market on Hanover Street in South Wilkes-Barre will reopen Tuesday after being forced to close last week due to flooding.

According to a post on the business’s Facebook page, the grocery store plans to reopen at 7 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Schiel’s was initially forced to close last week after heavy rains Thursday night caused flooding in South Wilkes-Barre. In particular, a section of Hanover Street, the area of South Main and Wood streets, and a section of Blackman Street near New Frederick Street were inundated by high water.

According to previous Times Leader reporting, clogged storm catch basins flooded Hanover Street and expanded into the family market’s parking lot and store.

The grocery store posted on Facebook Sunday that clean up efforts were “fully underway” and that the goal was “to get everything cleaned and sanitized with Servpro in a timely manner.” Servpro is a restoration and emergency services company that specializes in clean up due to fire and water damage.

Schiel’s other location on George Avenue, Wilkes-Barre remained open amid clean up efforts.
