HANOVER TWP. — A man from New York was arraigned Thursday on allegations he destroyed items inside the apartment of his estranged wife and used a machete to smash two vehicles at an apartment complex earlier this week.
Dowhane Andrew Salkey, 40, of Mount Vernon, removed a window air conditioner before crawling into the woman’s apartment in the Dundee Apartment complex on Middle Road on Aug. 25, according to court records.
The woman’s boyfriend ran out of the apartment naked when Salkey entered the apartment, court records say.
Police in court records say Salkey wrestled away a firearm from the woman, demanded to take his daughter, and flipped over a glass table.
Salkey left the apartment with his daughter and the boyfriend’s cellular phone, court records say.
Once outside, court records say, Salkey used a machete to smash the front and rear windshields of the woman’s vehicle and the rear windshield of the boyfriend’s vehicle including slashing tires on the two vehicles.
The woman told police she had been separated from Salkey for about one month.
Salkey was arraigned by District Judge Ferris Webby of Wright Township on charges of burglary, criminal trespass, theft, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. Salkey was released on $25,000 unsecured bail.
