Tigers outlast red flash in 88-62 victory

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson University men’s basketball outlasted Saint Francis on Friday night in Littlejohn Coliseum, winning 88-62.

The Tigers (2-0) were led by Ian Schieffelin’s (Atlanta, Ga./Grayson) double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds, to go along with four assists, two steals and one block.

Jaeden Zackery (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central/Boston College) was just as impressive, turning in his best game of the season thus far. Zackery finished with 16 points, a team-best six assists and four steals. Twice last season Zackery produced back-to-back games with three or more steals and has done so in consecutive games to start this campaign.

Clemson added double-digit steals in a game (12) for the first time since Jan. 21, 2023, when it had 10 in a 51-50 win over Virginia Tech. It ties for the most in a game since it had 12 against Morehead State on Dec. 21, 2020.

The Tigers started the opening stanza hot from the field and finished the period with a flurry of baskets to push their lead to 21 at the break and led the Red Flash 41-20.

Clemson pushed to a game-high lead of 29 points at 53-24 with 16:09 left in the second half. The Tigers let the Red Flash whittle the lead down to just 14 points before finishing strong and winning by 26.

Clemson got another 24 points off the bench, including eight points each from Dillon Hunter (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake) and Jake Heidbreder (Floyds Knobs, Ind./Floyd Central). Chase Hunter (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake) (13) and Chauncey Wiggins (Grayson, Ga./Grayson) (11) rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Tigers.
