41% of Pike casts ballots

With another week left of early voting, Pike County set a record as 41% of registered voters cast their ballots by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25.

So far, 6,340 Pike County voters have cast their ballots in person and 285 voters have cast their ballots by mail.

Early voting will be offered Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Friday, Nov. 1. All early voting takes place at the Pike County elections office at 81 Jackson Street in Zebulon.

All precincts will be open on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5.

“Historically, presidential elections tend to have a high turnout in Pike County,” said elections supervisor David Neyhart. “The highest turnout in the past 20 years was the 2016 where we had a 83% turnout. As of Friday at 5 p.m., we have had a 42% turnout which is running very close to the turnout for Early Voting in 2016. If the trend holds for this week, we should surpass the 2016 Early Voting turnout of 48% and the overall turnout of 83% for this years election.”

Georgia voters have also turned out in record numbers with 2.6 million ballots cast by Oct. 26.
