Early voting underway in Pike

Early voting for the November general election will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday until Nov. 1.

Voters can cast their ballots at 81 Jackson Street during advance voting.

In addition to the presidential election, there is only one contested local race on the Nov. 5 ballot.

There are two candidates for sheriff. They include incumbent Republican candidate Jimmy Thomas who has served for nearly 24 years and challenger and Independent candidate Jamal Willis who received the required 671 signatures to have his name on the ballot as an Independent.

The last day to request an absentee by mail ballot application is Oct. 25.

Ballot tracking notifications and other options are now available on the Georgia My Voter Page (mvp.sos.ga.gov).

“If you have recently moved and did not cast your vote in advance voting, please check voter registration status on My Voter Page (mvp.sos.ga.gov) to find your precinct,” said elections supervisor David Neyhart. “We have more than 16,000 registered voters in Pike County. Normally we expect from 60 to 70% of them to vote in a presidential race. We would love to have more voters come out and let their voices be heard.”
