Muralist Maggie Tarr-Soer has been making progress working on the mural on the north wall of Rural Cyclery. The theme of the mural is Grow Where You Are Planted.

The Winchester Civic Group met for its October session on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Rural Cyclery. After minutes from the September meeting were read the Group discussed an upcoming event they’re planning to celebrate to welcome the fall season.

The Civic Group will be hosting the Harvest Fall Festival on October 20 from 11-4 p..m. on the town square in Winchester. Musician Levi Tucker will provide live entertainment from 2-4 p.m. Food trucks will be available from 11-4, with vendor like Leo’s Pizza, J & D Rolling Smoke Barbeque and Graciously Sweet Desserts. Meals like chicken and noodles by local cook Lori Littig will also be served.

Activities like face and pumpkin painting were discussed at the meeting as well seating and potential need to divert traffic for the event.

Civic Group President Jackie Kuchy said progress on the wall mural being created on the north side of the Rural Cyclery, which is also on the square, was going well. The theme of the mural is “Grow Where You Are Planted” and is being painted by North Green Art Teacher Maggie Tarr-Soer. According to a publication on the project, the mural strives to capture the significant role that farming plays in the community through a modernized “street art” approach.

The Civic Group is using a grant they recently received to fund the mural project and proceeds from Harvest Fest will also help with project costs.
