BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The trial of Jonathan Knight, charged with murder and other crimes in the 2017 shooting that killed 5-year-old Kason Guyton, resumed Monday.
17 News is live blogging the proceedings.
Last week, the jury heard testimony from Knight’s co-defendant and Kason’s brother — who was wounded in the Feb. 23, 2017, shooting. The brother was 7 at the time.
The brothers were traveling in a vehicle driven by their mother’s boyfriend — a member of the East Side Crips.
Prosecutors say Knight, a West Side Crip, fired from another vehicle, intending to hit the driver, but hit Kason and his brother instead.
Co-defendant Jeremy King testified he drove the vehicle Knight fired from. He accepted a plea deal and will be sentenced to six years’ time served.
Knight faces a life term in prison if convicted as charged.
