W. Ray Cole

W. Ray Cole, age 81 of Griffin, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at his residence. Ray was born in Griffin, Georgia on February 19, 1943. His parents, Willie Pearl Cole and Katie Odell Cole, and stepdaughter, Shannon Funderburke, all preceded him in death. Ray was a 1961 graduate of Griffin High School and also a graduate of Georgia Military College.

Ray became a car salesman at Spalding Ford where he worked for many years. He also worked at Alan Vigil Ford of Fayetteville, and Davis Cooper Ford in Barnesville before retiring. Ray was a high school football referee official for over 20 years. He spent the majority of time after retirement doing what he loved the most which was umpiring Georgia High School baseball and softball games and travel softball tournaments. Ray also enjoyed playing golf, visiting the beach, watching football, the Atlanta Braves, and spending time with his beloved wife and family.

Survivors include wife Phyllis Smith Cole; daughter, Heather Cole Moore; son, Mark Cole (Kerrie); stepdaughter, Whitney Edge Foster (Chris); grandchildren, Chandler Constantini (Nick), Sawyer Moore, Brianna Foster Coursey (Taylor), Ryan Foster, Sydnie Foster, Emily Foster, Kerrah Foster; great grandchildren, Kohen Coursey, Memphis Coursey, Wilder Coursey, Stetson Coursey, Navy Beau Foster and his fur baby and best friend, Jax.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 1, 2024 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A funeral service will be Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Chaplain Winfred Dixson and Bobby Bunn will officiate; interment will be in Westwood Gardens. Conner-Westbury Funeral Home, 1891 W. McIntosh Road, Griffin, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
