EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah (ABC4) — A Utah woman was arrested for homicide after her 4-month-old son was injured in her care and died early Tuesday morning, according to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.

Raona Dorothy Mora, 32, was arrested on one count of child abuse homicide, which is a third-degree felony.

According to Sgt. Spencer Cannon with UCSO, officials responded to a home near Nolen Park just before 3:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24. Initial reports indicated that a 4-month-old boy “was bleeding from his ear and his head was swollen,” the sheriff’s office said.

Paramedics treated the boy at the scene before a medical helicopter began to take him to a hospital in Salt Lake City. However, because of the child’s condition getting worse, the helicopter detoured and took the child to a hospital in Lehi.

“The baby was treated at the hospital, but his injuries were too severe and he died,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release. “Doctors said the boy’s injuries were not consistent with having been caused the way the mother described.”

Deputies with UCSO and paramedics with Unified Fire Authority responded to the scene.

The boy’s mother was booked into the Utah County Jail on the aforementioned charge, and is being held without bail. The case is currently under investigation.

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
