After the breakout success of ESPN’s recent women’s basketball docuseries Full Court Press, Omaha Productions is thrilled to announce that a sequel series is in production. It was announced with co-producers ESPN and Words + Pictures.
Full Court Press followed women’s college basketball stars Caitlin Clark, Camilla Cardoso, and Kiki Rice through the historic 2023-2024 season. The original series was celebrated for its raw and insightful portrayal of athletes, taking audiences behind the scenes of women’s college basketball and revealing personal moments from the players’ lives.
The sequel to Full Court Press aims to build on the first season’s success by exploring new stories and challenges facing women’s college basketball players.
UConn guard Paige Bueckers is already considered a central figure in the upcoming season. Bueckers is a standout athlete who brings her skills to the court and a compelling personal story.
Other potential stars include USC guard JuJu Watkins and LSU guard Flau’jae Johnson. Both athletes represent the future of women’s basketball and offer unique insights into student-athletes’ lives.
Full Court Preseason 2 is in the early stages of production and will likely air soon after the conclusion of the 2024-2025 NCAA basketball season.
Full Court PressHailed as ESPN’s Best Sports Doc in Years
The first season of Full Court Press was expected to be an exciting recap of a historic women’s basketball season. But it emerged as much more than that. It has been hailed as a groundbreaking achievement in sports media and documentary filmmaking.
The series was praised for its honest and emotional storytelling, earning accolades from critics and viewers alike. Film critic Richard Roeper called it the best sports documentary since ESPN’s The Last Dance, the award-winning portrayal of Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls dynasty.
Much of the show’s authenticity is attributed to Caitlin Clark, who served as an executive producer and brought an authentic perspective to the series. But that shouldn’t cast doubts on season 2, which will feature a new trio of players.
The creative team behind season 1 is returning, headed by Omaha Productions co-founders Jamie Horowitz and Peyton Manning. Both are dedicated to making season 2 even more thrilling than the first.
Jamie Horowitz and Peyton Manning: All In for Season 2
The players are what make Full Court Press a captivating docuseries. However, the creatives behind the scenes are responsible for getting players to sign on and open their lives to nationwide audiences.
Jamie Horowitz and Peyton Manning have proven to be masters of the sports doc format.
Horowitz, known for his transformative influence on sports entertainment, has a knack for storytelling. His uncanny ability to identify star personalities has helped launch the careers of Stephen A. Smith, Shannon Sharpe, and Skip Bayless.
His influence on Full Court Press has been no less remarkable. With his help, Omaha has selected players who have made history on the court and captivated fans with their real-life stories.
Peyton Manning’s star power and deep sports insight have also proven invaluable. He opens doors to star players that no other producer could. He works extensively with players, helping them get comfortable with the format and show their authentic selves. Without Manning, there would be fewer players for crews to follow and fewer stories to tell.
Omaha Productions will continue collaborating with ESPN and Words + Pictures to produce season 2. This partnership brings together some of the best minds in sports media to create entertaining and wholesome content.
More to Love from Omaha Productions
The announcement of the sequel to Full Court Press generates buzz among fans of women’s basketball and the program’s first season. While the starring players have not yet been confirmed, the new season promises to deliver another round of compelling stories and unforgettable moments.
In the meantime, Omaha Productions has a slate of new series for fans to enjoy. According to Therese Andrews, head of production at Omaha Productions, the company has as many as 8-12 projects in development.
The first to drop this summer will be Receiver, the follow-up to Netflix’s hit NFL docuseries Quarterback. Receiver will follow five NFL wide receivers and tight ends during the 2023 NFL season.
Soon after, Omaha’s first scripted series, Chad Powers, will premiere on Hulu. Chad Powers is a sports comedy about a rejected college quarterback who tries to turn his life around by donning a disguise to get back in the game. It’s based on a bit from Eli’s Places, another Omaha Production series.
Fans also have new NBA content to look forward to. Jamie Horowitz and Peyton Manning are teaming up with LeBron James’ SpringHill Farms to produce an NBA docuseries starring James and other leading players.
Jamie Horowitz and Peyton Manning have made Omaha Productions a dominating sports entertainment force. Under their leadership, viewers can expect great things from Full Court Press season 2 and Omaha’s slate of future projects.
