Kathleen ‘Kathy’ Edith Settles |83 | Winchester

Kathleen “Kathy” Edith Settles, 83, of Winchester, Illinois, left this earth for her heavenly home on Jan. 15, 2025 while wintering in Yuma, Arizona.
Kathleen was born in Jerseyville, IL on Feb. 14, 1941 to Melvin Edward and Bessie Elizabeth (Wells) Dwyer. She attended Jerseyville High School and MacMurray College for 1 semester. She worked several places including Woolworth’s, Hertzberg Book Bindery, Dr. Francis Angel, DDS, Mobil Chemical, Capital Records, Walgreens, Young Trucking and Walmart.
Kathleen liked people and never met a stranger. She could talk with anyone, for hours, about anything. And those who knew her best could say that talking was her favorite pastime. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, gardening, crocheting, reading, playing card games at RV resorts, and bingo at the senior center.
Kathleen met the love of her life, Donald Settles, when she was in high school working at the Jerseyville skating rink. They were married on Aug. 30, 1959, enjoyed 65 years together, and he survives. They raised three daughters in Jacksonville, IL.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Charlotte Dwyer and Juanita Hubert, two brothers, Nathan Dwyer and Clifton Dwyer and her daughter Suzan Settles-Haynes.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Lee Settles of Winchester, two daughters: Constance Lee (Gregory) of Winchester and Donna Moy (Philip) of Kelseyville, CA; six grandchildren: Michelle Cripe (Dayton) of Ormand Beach, FL, Krystal Bradley of Jacksonville, Hilary Batty (Rebecca Arvieux) of Granite City, Samantha Batty (Tynan Dilick) of Nashville, TN, Kaylyn Haynes of Chattanooga, TN, and Jillian Batty of Springfield; six great-grandchildren: Lily Estrada (Manuel), Eli Daly, and Drew Cripe of Orland Beach, FL, Aaron Holmes and Madison Bradley of Jacksonville and Piper Bradley of Bluffs; one great-great-grandson, Jackson Estrada of Ormand Beach, FL. She is also survived by one sister, Rosella Woolsey of Jerseyville and one brother, Roger Dwyer of Dow.
A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025 at the Davis Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville, IL with burial at Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery. The family met with friends on Friday evening, Jan. 24, 2025 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
