“God Bless the USA!”
That’s how the music started on Nov. 13, as members of GFWC West Side gathered to honor local veterans at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center’s Community Living Center. The club members were honored to spend time with these heroes.
Jerry and Blanche Grady of DJ Escape volunteered their time and talents to provide the music for a Karaoke party for these veterans. While the music played, GFWC West Side members dished up ice cream sundaes, and veterans were encouraged to sing songs from their favorite artists.
Also, students in the SHINE After School Program of Luzerne County, after learning about why we honor veterans, created cards to say “thank you.” These cards were delivered to the veterans during the karaoke event.
GFWC West Side is a volunteer community service organization and is part of the National General Federation of Women’s Clubs, one of the world’s largest and oldest women’s volunteer service organizations. Members are united by a dedication to community improvement through volunteer service. For membership information, contact GFWCWestside18704@gmail.com.
