Overnight dust storm drives many Arkansans to the car wash

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – If you drove by a car wash Saturday, you may have noticed it was packed with many confused drivers all wondering how they woke up to dusty cars, like Mckenna Luckett.

“It was so dirty I thought it was from the rain but I’m like usually when it rains it’s not this dirty,” Luckett said.

And she was right, it in fact wasn’t rain but the Texas dust storm creeping in on Arkansans overnight, leaving their cars filthy, giving them no choice but to bring their cars in for a scrub.

“I just had to come over here and get a car wash because it was too dusty” Luckett said.

Dirty Surprise: Texas dust covers Arkansas cars Saturday

Take 5 in Pine Bluff was one of the many car washes packed, and the manager Andrew Ellis says they serviced double the people.

“On a typical day we may see 190 cars; on a Saturday like this we probably see 200 but today it’s been a little extra” Ellis said.

He said over 300 drivers came through Take 5 Saturday.

Although the dust storm was something he didn’t see coming, he ended up making the best out of a busy day.

“We got to see a lot of people and meet a lot of people today” Ellis said.
