We’re feeling a little reflective this time of year. And there is no better way to look back over the past 300-plus days than by scrolling through photos from our venerable photographer, Darrow Montgomery.
As he does every year, Montgomery compiled a special sample of his work through out the past year. This collection features photos from his regular Page Three column, his mini-photo essays, Block Party, and his big project exploring our urban oasis Rock Creek Park. He has also included photos of musicians and politicians, hot dogs and American flags, and birds and dogs (always dogs).
Take a moment and look back. And then look forward to 2025.

Margaret Williams’ daughter, Diane, was killed in September 1972. The 17-year-old Ballou High School senior was the sixth and final victim of the so-called Freeway Phantom serial murderer. Margaret, 89, lives in the same house that she did when Diane was killed. Although it was 1972, she says, it feels more like it was 2002. Credit: Darrow Montgomery
