2 men shot at South Shore gas station

A shooting that erupted at a South Shore gas station late Monday morning left two men shot, one in critical condition, fire officials said.

A gunman the victims do not know fired several rounds, hitting a 27-year-old man in the chest and a 48-year-old man in the groin area at the BP station, 6701 S. Jeffery Blvd., about 11:30 a.m., according to police and Larry Merritt, a spokesperson for the Chicago fire department.

Both were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, one in critical condition and the other in fair condition, Merritt said.

At least three CTA bus routes — the No. 26 South Shore Express, the No. 67, and the No. 6 Jackson Park Express were temporarily diverted because of police activity in that area, according to a CTA alert. Riders should allow extra travel time.

No arrests have been made.
