BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — It’s an exciting week for book lovers in Kern County.
After a year-long closure, the southwest Branch of the Kern County Library reopened its doors Monday. It shut down in Jan. 2, 2024 to improve the aging infrastructure. The project took twice as long to complete, but the the stacks are open for you to visit, according to is Fahra Daredia with the Kern County Library.
The Holloway Gonzales Branch Library on Brundage Lane also reopened its doors after six-month long improvement project.
A grand opening celebration is scheduled for SW branch on Jan. 15. The Holloway Gonzales branch will also have a grand opening event Feb. 6, expect activities and snacks at both.
The library’s “Zip Books” program also returns this week. Kern County residents with a library card can make requests for titles not currently in the Library’s collection. Once your request is approved by staff members, your materials will be mailed directly to your doorstep from Amazon for free.
